Background & Mission

In April 1987, the Educational Council established the Drug-Free Schools Consortium and in 1997 it became the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Consortium. The Consortium currently serves all sixteen public school districts and forty-one non-public schools in Franklin County.

Our mission is to promote and facilitate the development of safe and drug-free school communities where students can learn.

We carry out our mission with research-based violence, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention programming and services for grades K-12 that are comprehensive and ongoing. We encourage parent and community participation in our violence, alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention efforts because we believe that youth are part of a complex social structure and can learn from multiple perspectives.

Representatives to the Consortium, appointed by superintendents of each member district, as well as, a Steering Committee made up of some of those representatives, help to carryout the Consortium mission.
